Looking at Things Differently
Looking at things differently
- There are things you know for sure
- Things you think you know for sure
- Things you think you know for sure but don’t really know at all
- Boils down to a thought process that allows us to find changes in our processes
- Ask – “what do we know” in both panic and strategic situations
Flounder Story
- Son wanted to fish for flounder on a Saturday afternoon in July
- Andy’s knowledge for fishing flounder told him he knew his son wouldn’t catch one, but appeased him to buy some time to speak with his wife.
- His son caught the biggest flounder he had ever seen
- Andy never would have caught that flounder based on what he thought he knew
Thinking ahead
- As we head into 2021, what can we look at differently to get us better results
- How many more things could we accomplish if we looked at things in a different way
- Prism story: once a decorative piece, the prism was turned upside down and placed in the deck of ships to allow deck hands to see below deck for safety
