Beyond the Box

  1. When we think about last year, we can consider it lightning out of the bottle or a new way of thinking
  2. Its all about your perspective, you choose your perspective
  3. How long do you think the phrase “thinking outside the box” has been around?
    1. In the last 60 years, do you think it has gained power, has the same power or has less power now than it did when the phrase was coined?
    2. It describes a way of thinking differently or getting ahead of the competition
      • At OWM, we want to compete in a way that our competition doesn’t even know a game is happening
  4. When you are in the top 5% of performers, your results are above everyone else’s, but as more and more people begin to think outside of the box, that gap closes in on the elite.
  5. Think of college football
    1. During the empty time between plays, players are in a huddle deciding on their next play, moving toward the line of scrimmage, stretching, etc.
    2. In the history of football, this took an average of 32 seconds.
    3. By 2010, the Ducks eliminated huddles and began using signs on the sidelines, thus decreasing that empty time to 23.2 seconds.
    4. This meant the Ducks were moving the game along 32% faster than their opposing team. They became stunned and confused
    5. They were within the rules of game but thinking outside the box
    6. Many coaches, including Nick Sabon didn’t like this new method and were quick to be vocal about it.   Putting mental thoughts into the minds of others to disregard playing this way.  In the meantime, Nick began recruiting to this method and adapting the Ducks ways himself.
  6. When everyone begins thinking outside the box, no one is really thinking outside the box, it’s a level playing field again.   For most, when things stop working, they go back to the drawing board.
    1. To go beyond, we need to think differently and blaze more trails.  Use the endpoint of the previous trail to blaze a new one, don’t start over
    2. Make use of what we have determined to be true and continue to seek the truth.  Most of our competition will stop at finding what is true, we will move beyond the box and find the truth.
