The Attitude of Personal Intent

We actively try to control our imagination but shutting it down because we have already decided what will happen when we are trying to reach incredible results (that it won’t happen)

Imagine the previously unimaginable 

What do we need to make this a reality?

We need to move forward with personal intent. 

We talked about leadership – our discussions aren’t typical

  1. We are already a natural leader
  2. You have a desire to lead them to understand what you know to be true
  3. You want to lead every single boating prospect to buy from OWM

These could apply to almost everyone on the planet – this does apply to everyone at OWM, we are at the advantage because we know this – our competitors do not. 


The essence of leadership is influence

  1. Want your family to listen and bring them into agreement
  2. Have the desire to help your friends – bring them into agreement
  3. Have the desire to sell every boat


  • We need an ever-increasing amount of influence – helps if they actually like us
  • To make that happen we need to gain the understanding of how people think
  • We become people other people want to be around
  • Trust factor that people often consider first – deeply subconscious – do I really trust, do they have my best interests at heart? Mostly just a feeling, rarely articulated

Actual leadership isn’t about who is in charge – management describes who is in charge 

  • Major difference in managing people and leading people 
  • Critical to understand the difference, why?  Because if you don’t know then you are only managing
  • People who manage people get frustrated over time because they don’t understand why people don’t follow them. They waver between two unhealthy opinions about people – “people can’t or won’t follow them”
  • It’s possible to manage to by penalizing or firing those who don’t follow; its rarely possible to manage people to accomplish to a vision
  • People will respond only to the level to keep them employed because they have to
  • People respond to leaders because they want to. They have bought into the vision
  • Leaders will trump a manager because of how they make us feel. In general, we lead people, we manage things. 

Why is real leadership rare? People don’t understand the power they have to build trust with others. 

Be the rare person that leads with positive direction builds agreement amongst teams, while moving toward an accomplishment of a coordinated result. More energized and more fun for the team.  Especially true when the risk is high, and consequence really matters. Then they will reach results beyond what was first imagined. 

Remember the main point in everything we talk about is you - what you can control – therefor, control your imagination, harness it for your benefit.  Shift your sense of humor into overdrive and everyone will enjoy things a lot more.
