The Power of Belief
The land mass known as the USA was once separated into 4 parts by England, France, Spain and the USA.
There is a tale of power in this gun’s past. May 1804, a crew of men were sent out to “find whatever is out there and secure it as soon as we could”. Journey lasted 2 years. Encountered many Indian tribes along the way. Lewis and Clark only lost one man due to illness, no one was lost to violence. How did they only lose one man (from illness) to what was collectively known as violent tribes defending their land? The story is they survived because of the air rifle.
When the white man would fire their one shot and take the time to reload the tribes would gain the advantage and at arm’s length, they were able to attack. Enter the air rifle, used as a distraction, made to look almost exactly an actual gun. The gun had the ability to be fired repeatedly within seconds, unlike the actual guns that took about 30 seconds to reload. Lewis purchased the rifle on a whim when purchasing supplies for the journey. The men of the expo realized they were being sized up and knowing they were no match in numbers, they demo’d the rifle with repeat shots “fired” leaving the tribes in awe of his magic, not knowing the source of the power. They believed each of the weapons carried by the 33 men could shoot the same number of shots as this air rifle so they never initiated any type of attack.
Can you name in instance when you believed something that caused you to do so certain thing or act a certain way and what you believed wasn’t in fact true?
Can you think of a time that process occurred in someone else’s life?
