The Absolutes of Building Culture

Culture if the foundation that everything springs from.  Many companies play lip service but don’t live it in their actions.

There are some absolutes.

Be determined to raise children who become great adults. You can know great children but they don’t always become great adults.  Two different processes produce two different results.  

When they get away from the safety net, the things they didn’t understand become hard lessons. When kids can’t connect the why behind their behaviors and success they struggle.

Why would adults build a magnetic culture if they don’t understand why they are asked to behave in certain ways?  You can ask but if they don’t understand, they won’t buy in.

These absolutes will become foundational bricks that will build what we want to create.  

  1. A person is more valuable to everyone, when they have chosen to become unoffendable with a great sense of humor
    • Nothing holds as much negative power over group than someone who takes offense
  2. You have been created with a will that is stronger than your emotions 
    • You can choose how you act despite what you feel
    • An offense taken produces a feeling
    • Nothing will prove to be less important than how you feel
    • We live in a world where people are more concerned with how they feel
    • It’s a lie – threatens generation, despite laws and regulations – no one really cares how we feel – they only care how we act.
    • Consider the human system of relationships and economy – neither function on how people feel.   They are only moved by how we act, what we do.  
    • Example: we don’t receive good grades because our teacher wants us to feel good
  3. When it comes to whether or not you are offended – you are in control
    • You can choose to be offended or not
    • You can choose the behavior
    • The damage caused by offense

 

Skill of the day | Habit you want to create – Smile while you talk.  Most people don’t so this, but when you smile while you talk, people will start smiling.  Add a nod.   They will too.  People can’t say no when they are smiling and nodding. You will be treated differently by everyone you encounter. An action you can take, not a feeling you have to have.
