Two Kinds of People

  • There are two kinds of people in the world:
    • Those who divide the world into two kinds of people and those who don’t
    • The problem and the solution
    • Reactive and proactive
    • Those who walk into a room and say “here I am” and those who walk into a room and say “there you are”
  • When someone points out a problem without a solution, that person becomes an annoyance.
  • A person who is willing to solve every problem he or she faces increases his/her value to the team.
  • The less attention we require from our leaders, the more valuable we are to them.
  • Quit expecting things to be the way they “ought” to be. This continually leads to frustration. Instead, deal with things the way they actually are.
  • Problems are on the surface; solutions are at the bottom of the pool.
  • Reactive people rarely look for more to do.
  • Proactive people are alert for any situational bumps in the road.
  • How can you become more proactive and less reactive?
    1. Think long term. Continue thinking down the road.
    2. Keep your eyes open for opportunities to serve others.
    3. Keep your mind open for new ideas.
    4. Work to maintain a high emotional IQ.
  • Influence is the natural default of proactive people.
